The Hedge Garden at Cedar Grove.

Sitting in between Cedar Grove and the Hugh Torrance house and store lies an ancient hedge remnant that is centuries old. Resurrecting it was no easy task as it was completely covered in greenbrier and poison ivy. The concept I had for the design is to treat its oblong shape like a giant vase where the planting erupts from within. The corners are planted with deer resistant natives and the garden is edged in fallen cedar from the property.

On one end of the hedge is an opening that invites you into the space so we commissioned local artisan Oldfield Woodworks to craft a custom cedar bench. Half sculpture and half seat here you can sit and feel held by the garden and contemplate its deep and meaningful history.
